Sort of the opposite of a double rainbow
Last night’s dream, in summary: A spaceship with Predators and Alien xenomorphs on it The Predators liked to birth xenomorphs from increasingly dangerous alien animals and battle them using only whips The main Predator went insane and deliberately let a facehugger implant her* with an embryo Shit went extremely bad (of course) and the ship crash-landed on a forest planet The humans on...

Self-fulfilling prophecy
Maybe I shouldn’t have titled that last post with that saying about cats and curiosity, because clicking the “notes” link on it doesn’t actually show me any notes.  So if someone answered my question, or even just liked that post for some reason, I may never know.  It’s oddly poetic. Anyway: after nearly two months of glorious chaos in the form of album recording and...

Curiosity, cats, etc
I have new followers (readers? it sounds cultish and/or pretentious to say “followers,” sort of, but I digress). I hope you’ll understand that I’m not being accusatory in the least when I say this, but: who are you? Why are you following this weird-ass blog? Do I know you already, and just not know it?

Nerd triumph 2010
Every year, something happens in San Diego that makes it the Best Comic Con Ever for me, and it’s always something completely different.  This year’s awesome quotient exceeded previous projections. A few days before leaving, some friends and I found out that the Westboro Baptist Church was planning on protesting San Diego Comic Con, and immediately set about thinking of ways to jam...

Sandwich infosystems standards 4 LYFE
Tell me if this has ever happened to you: You go to a sandwich shop. The sandwich shop’s menu has specialty sandwiches on it, things like “THE FRANCISCO: Roasted chicken with avocado and sun-dried tomatoes.” You order the Francisco. When you get it, it turns out that it also has lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, and mayo on it. Mayo! Your sandwich is inedible. Great. The...

HANDBASKET EXPRESS
Are we all aware that the Westboro Baptist Church is planning on picketing San Diego Comic Con?  Apparently we’re all a bunch of idolators.  I mean it; that’s why they’re going down there. My friends and I have generated a partial list of ideas for pranking these assclowns that brim with nerdy genius: Setting up a gold statue of Batman near their encampment and leaving wreaths...

Eternal parenting wisdom from a single man
This is something I just said to someone over lunch, and it seemed worth writing down: You’ve got to do a good job with [raising] that kid; in fact, it’s probably the most important thing any of us can do!  Because if you do it wrong, you’re gonna make an asshole, and what the world doesn’t need any more of is more assholes. I wonder if I should go into a partnership...

INJOKE FOLLOWS
Dreamfather loremasters take note: San Francisco is not a particularly lightening-heavy area.  I doubt very much that I am all up in some Dreamfather-type activity here. /injoke closes /yes I am aware “lightning” is misspelled /look, you really had to be there

I AM THE DREAM LORD
In the past 48 hours, six people have had dreams in which I’ve appeared.  Six.  I don’t know if that’s unusual or not, but it sure feels kind of weird. I’m not convinced there’s a pattern: Local woman, friends for years, in a relationship, mid 20s Local man, work pals for a year or so(?), relationship status unknown, mid 30s(?) (I don’t know how old he is) ...

LeBron React: Never Has Being a Sports Fan Felt So... →
Two things: I’ve always liked watching individual games of certain sports,* but I’ve never been able to follow teams the way most sports fans seem able.  I used to maintain that this was because my brain was too busy caring about Star Trek and comic books to fit in another item to track, but now I wonder if it might have always been because of what this guy brings up. The title of...

Quotes from the weekend
I spent the weekend out in the desert, the Black Rock Desert specifically, and it was totally fantastic.  All that’s left is to post some enigmatic, in-jokey quotes that I managed to write down in the most haphazard manner possible: “They could be Camp Scary Van.” “Your heart is greasy, and that’s what matters.” “In place of the internet, we have...

This is what I notice
The nails on my right foot grow faster than the ones on my left.  Perhaps twice as fast.  Why would this be.  I cannot think of a single good reason.  It’s not like my left shoe is somehow tighter than my right; I’d’ve noticed that, wouldn’t I? Once again, the tag on this blog post proves horribly, horribly apt.
