I can't unthink it now
I have to ask: where are all of these teen girl followers for my Tumblr of names for made-up bands and crap coming from? I accept as a general premise that it might be entertaining for people, but in the past 24 hours, my teen follower count has risen by like a dozen, which is an unusual blip.
The question that inhered immediately was “are they just looking for follow-backs?”
This...

Democrats: 'If We're Gonna Lose, Let's Go Down... →
I wonder if the Onion’s writing staff has an internal tag they use for articles like these called “painful truth” that has an icon depicting a person shoving a gun into their mouth.

Something I just found out
I don’t own a raincoat. Do I need one? I’ve already got rain boots and a decent umbrella. But I went outside today having left my umbrella at the office over the weekend, and realized that I might need something to cover the top of me.
What I do have in my closet is an old white lab coat. That’s not the same thing, is it.

In the City: The Drowned in Sound review (part 1)... →
You need to read this, even if you have no idea who these bands are (as I pretty much don’t) just for the way the language just kind of rolls around on your bed in a pile of toys. What I gather is that “In the City” is the name of a music festival somewhere in the UK (Manchester?) similar to SXSW. That’s pretty much all you need to know going in.

Daft Punk and Phoenix join forces to blow... →
I have gone on record as not being a fan of people who try to take pictures or video of concerts with their shitty camera phones or what-have-you, but I admit to being wrong in one particular case: when they’re taking video of some insane occurrence that must be recorded and shared with those who were not there. Like this. Just observe their entrance. Holy shitting fuck.

In other news
All right, so look: I’m supposed to be getting an update to my phone’s OS, which is awesome. But:
You will receive the update in a two-part OTA. The first update will take approximately 5-10 minutes to download and will be followed by approximately a 30 minute period of time before the next update is received. The second update will take approximately one hour to receive and during...

All right, Tumblr Walrus, all right
This is more the point of what I was trying to bring up:
To everybody who’s saying “Penny Arcade should have just found another joke” — walk with me here:
Rape affects a lot of people
Mentions of it have the potential to be triggering
Therefore it is bad to make rape jokes, even offhand
There are a lot of other things that also affect a lot of people, such as:

Here's a thought
This whole Penny Arcade Dickwolves/RAINN thing. The end result is fine; a deserving organization got some money and that’s all to the good.
But: anyone reading the original comic in question should be able to identify the offending part as a one-line throwaway joke about something unrelated. Was it in fact triggering? Is that even a germane question?
Consider: any sentence or image that...

It really is significant
The past couple days here have been pretty hot, for San Francisco anyway,* but something I’m enjoying is that the headwind that typically flows eastward through the Golden Gate Channel has died down.
See, when I ride my bike home, that god damn headwind blows right into my face without letup, and makes the ride home harder than the ride to work. I’ve often wondered what it would...

It really, truly is. You need to get in on this. We worked on this for basically a whole year, and we made it good, if I do say so myself.

The fastest dramatic arc ever
A dream in three parts. Ready?
I’m captured by Nazis, and a “collaborator” marches me into a room to take my suicide pill. They look like ink-black candy.
I tell him “My religious beliefs require me to die in battle. What say we overpower a guard, take his gun, and go out fighting? We can at least take a couple of these motherfuckers out before we go.”
He agrees,...

This one counts
Someone had been storing chestbursters in lab jars with gaudy, science-colored lids, and my only thought was “those better not get out.”

Every recent economic news article everywhere ever →
Every time a major news organization gets the urge to print something about the economy, they should just save time and run this instead. I’ve been complaining about this for at least the last couple of years now, but honestly, people. Honestly.
What I would actually love would be to get a bunch of experts together to calculate a “Fucked Index (FI)” of how fucked we are, on...

Tiny updates
Just a few things I’ve noticed:
The queue functionality isn’t working quite as well as I think they hoped; it published at least three Dogblog posts that were supposed to go out over the next three weeks within, like, a 24-hour span. I think the rest of them will work as they’re supposed to (I made small edits to each one and saved them individually), but who knows?
I’m...

AWWW YEAH
Something I just noticed: if you add “… LADIES” to the end of every tweet, it makes them just a little bit more hilarious. I imagine the person saying their tweet out loud, then turning to face the camera directly with one eyebrow raised to deliver the last word.
@wilw Wanna grow up to be a debaser … LADIES

I have a great idea for a new drink
Or rather, a new name for an existing drink.
You know how sometimes you’re at a bar and you want to have a drink in your hand, but you don’t want it to be booze, and you don’t necessarily need a water? Why not get a ginger ale?
Something you may or may not know about Batman is that he doesn’t drink. You see Bruce Wayne at some fancy black-tie party and he’s got a...

No, I am not going to see "The Social Network"
I live in god damn Silicon Valley, people. Do I need to watch a movie about how Facebook started? The answer to this question is no. No, I do not.
What’s funny is that if someone I knew was actually in it, I might go see it. Ha! See, social networks in a movie called oh forget it
Number of people I know in this movie: 0
Number of fucks I give about this movie: 0
Not that I need to know...
